C'est La Vie

A seaside boulangerie

I love bread.

So, it’s no wonder I am rather fond of this little french bakery in the quaint seaside nook of the Cape Peninsula called Fish Hoek. Situated in a little space not far from the beach, this tiny eatery bakes all its artisanal loaves, from baguettes and pain de compagne to dainty friands.

My favourite is the boiled eggs, with a side of toasted baguette, beurre and confiture (butter and jam). But a coffee and a freshly baked pain au chocolate also comes highly recommended.

The artisanal loaves are very much in demand, so don't go too late if you're after some bread or a croissant to take away, the sourdough is especially good. The smell of baking bread wafting out the door will make your head turn, your nose lift and your eyes close . . . it’s only a matter of time until someone says, “Oh my God—that smells good!”

They don’t accept credit cards, so be sure to carry a little cash or have your phone handy to use zapper.
